THE EARTH WE INHERITED
Happy Earth's Day
(THE EARTH WE INHERITED!)
In the good old days, our fathers lived and enjoyed the zest of time. They weren't entirely vegetarians, they lived on all nature made available and never compromised the standard of sustainable production, harvest, consumption, and preservation. They lived to their good old age in good health, sound mind, and vitality. How and why the people in the present time suffer pains in sicknesses and die prematurely should not just be a topic for research but also an action call on all homo-sapiens and their government.
One of the natural medicines I met and enjoyed with my family was organic mushrooms that sprout in the vegetation. In short, they need no human effort to sprout and they are distributed across seasons.
There is virtually no delicacy that mushrooms don't complement. Mushrooms are popularly called Osun or Olu in Yoruba. Osun Takele, Rooro, Uyikuyi, Ogogo, and Wowo among others never fell out of the supply of nutrition for our fathers. It is even said that the richness of mushrooms in fiber, protein, and antioxidants protects our fathers from communicable diseases like Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and other serious health conditions.
Painfully, many of these mushroom species have gone into extinction. Indiscriminate use of chemicals on land and other unsustainable practices that leave Vegetation in the shadow of itself is identified as one the causal factors.
Which way do we go?
I'm confident that no one is happy living with a serious health condition neither is our health system strong nor stable enough to cater to these economy-draining challenges. It is therefore sane and sound for mankind to appear the Mother Earth by switching to Eco mode to restore the planet and enjoy the luxury it brings to mankind.
Supporting the Whole Planet Initiative in policy advocacy, public education, and enlightenment for sustainable environmental practices is a good step toward promoting public health, eliminating diseases, and bequeathing a livable Earth for the coming generations.
Today is another Earth's Day to remind ourselves that the Earth can exist without humans but humans cannot. We can complement the works of the United Nations Development Programme - United Nations Development Programme - UNDP UNDP in Nigeria Federal Ministry of Environment, Whole Planet Initiative CSOs on the environment, and other stakeholders to conserve and protect Mother Earth from further deterioration
