*A Wise Man Leaves Inheritance for his Children*
Our heels were fast to reach the much anticipated millennium which perhaps was silently in wait to remind us of how it was treated in the past centuries. This brings to memory the assertion of Leo Tolstoy that; _"one of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between man and nature shall not be broken"_ . The past generations have breeched this law by treating the planet earth with much scorns. Here we are left to live with the consequences. It would be said that, if the political and economic climates of Nigeria and the world seem not to be in our favour, the much natural ambience should compensate our existence by the fact of our being, nonetheless, no one is immuned of disaster when it strikes.
Here comes the millennium with much diseases, ailments, economic and social hardships beyond human capacity to absorb. This trajectories is largely the direct implications of human excessive interactions with the environment which trigger pollution from households, industries green house gases emissions and effluents; deforestation, illicit waste disposals, unsustainable mineral extraction and agricultural practices, aggressive urbanisation among others.
Today, thousands and millions of Nigerians loss their lives, properties and means of livelihood to environmental hazards that would cost less than *0.001* percent if we take responsibility to address the hazards before it metamorphoses to risks. Can we maintain the status quo and expect a change? George Bernard Shaw would say; _progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything"_!
*Whole Planet Initiative* have come to initiate and effect the change we individually and collectively need to live in a safer planet and to sustain it for the future generations. Or of what importance is a fine house, beautiful infrastructures and development if we have a tolerantless planet to put it? Of what pleasure is the world of cholera, typhoid, fever, cancer, malaria among others that global warming constantly projects? Of what usefulness is the planet characterised by flood, cyclones, drought, infestation, epidemics, and other disasters formidable to extinct human race?
Join us to get the world informed of sustainable waste management and environmental management practices. Climate change is a 21 Century reality everyone needs to know the causes, effects and the way forward to reverse the much devastating environmental degradation. I would leave us with the words of Gaylord Nelson that; _"the ultimate test of man’s conscience is his willingness to sacrifice something for the future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard by us"_ . And I say, even you deserve a healthy life by the fact of your living which is proportionately determined by your environment. Your little contribution to salvage the planet earth from further deterioration and promoting it’s sustainability for future generations will be said of you many times.
