Youth is the period between childhood...

Youth is the period between childhood and adulthood in a lifetime. The age bracket differs from country to country. In Nigeria, it is between 18-35. Some advanced countries adopt 16-29. It is often tagged as the planting season in a lifetime. This makes it so crucial and delicate because whatever habit, structure or institution that is created at this time hardly disappears. Youth globally has 1.2billion population and projected at 1.4billion in 2050. In Nigeria, 33.6 million people fall in this category which is a huge asset if properly annexed for national productivity, growth and development. The likes of Nnamdi Azikwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Fumilayo Ransome Kuti, Hamadu Bello, Muritala Muhammad, Margaret Ekpo, Anthony Enahoro among other famous heros and Heroines have established the strong relationship between youth and development. Dear youth, Have you taken a few minutes of your time to ponder your essence in your family, community and nation in relation to the peace, growth and development we crave? What role do you play? If other youth are like you, do you think life will be better? If the older people lived it in your way, would life be better; if otherwise, could you stand the rot at this time? Would you be proud of your offsprings taking after you? Given your lifestyle at the moment, what is it that will be said of you? Much more, what do you wanna bequeath to the next generation? I leave you to the answers. I hope it calls you to wisdom and knowledge of your existence. It is another International Youth Day, Themed: Intergenerational Solidarity, Creating a World for all Ages. Don't forget to put sustainability at the center of your relationship with human, resources and the environment. I'm Adebukola Margaret.
