Waste Management is one of the myriad issues facing the globe. World Bank estimated 2.24 billions tonnes of solid waste generated in 2020, staking waste per person at 0.79 per person. Nigeria annual solid waste generation stands at 42 million (average) puting per person at 0.65-0.95kg. While these might not really be a problem it becomes a problem when it is not properly manage from the point of generation to disposal and the aftermath of social, health and environmental issues it causes human and the environment. You could be thinking how these figures are attributed to you or how you should be concerned. The effects of poor waste management include: 👉 Water, air and land pollution (You use them) 👉 Diseases (The risk of exposure) 👉 Defaces the environment ( You wouldn't like to stay in the dumps) 👉 Drainage blockage (Causes flood and the untold consequences) 👉 Environmental degradation (the affects food production, animal and human lives) 👉 Add yours. You know what? As long as there's no alternative planet that can accommodate human population, the effects of poor waste management remain a bane to humanity. Consequently, we are advise to practice 8rs of waste management 🌍 Rethink: Think and rethink before you produce a waste. 🌍 Refuse: If the material is not needful, refuse it. 🌍 Reduce: Deal with your psychology of abundance to cause wastage. Cut your resources use to a needful size. 🌍 Reuse: Learn to reuse materials and go for reusable materials. 🌍 Recycle: Make another useful materials from used products. 🌍: Regulate: Abide by waste management rules.
