Nigeria of today is among the...

Nigeria of today is among the poorest countries of the world. According to the Statista February 2022 report, 88.5 millions of it's people live in extreme poverty. No thanks to the drivers of the surge in the prices of food commodities and essential items in the last 15 months. This hyper inflation of about 200% increase has further crippled the precarious economic and social security of a reasonable percentage of Nigeria population. In our usual manner, we overload God with unrealistic expectations even when we daily fail to do the basics expected of us in tendering the lushing garden he benevolently placed us. Year 2022 seems to echo the pass years of environmental deterioration and the attendant degradation for the mother Earth. Like never before in history in the city of Ibadan, 3 mango fruits sell for #300 as against 5 for #200 in 2021. 5 cashew fruits sell for #200 against #100 or less the previous years, among other fruits. It's corn season. It used to be 3 or 4 for #100 but a single stick goes for #100 or #150. Where is our hope for food and good nutrition for Nigeria increasing population. I'm not ruling out the effects of climate change on the food scarcity facing us. Climate Change is presently a jingle to everyone of us to take environmental management with utmost importance. While we do this, afforestation of fruit trees is a necessary prerequisite to ensure and promote food and nutrition for human population for the present and future. Finally, reliance on commercial food production is no longer a sane, sound, reliable and sustainable mechanism to feed the nation and and sustain our planet. The mini space in our houses can grow fruits and vegetables for the present and future. More importantly, growing greens does more for human and environmental health and well-being.
