#COVID-19 It is no longer news that this virus is here. And why the physicians and the scientists are working to put an end to its spread, we also have roles to play. The lockdown is aimed at breaking the chains of spreading of this agent. Which include direct contact, indirect contact, and droplets. Staying home, maintaining social distancing and coughing etiquette, and proper handwashing is our responsibility. I'm not praying for the lockdown to be longer than we expect but it can happen. For now, the challenge the clinicians are facing is a FALSE NEGATIVE RESULT. In other words, a person can actually have this virus and the result will prove otherwise. This is not about Nigeria alone, it's happening all over. This is due to the bias of the diagnostic technique in use (real-time PCR) The sensitivity of this diagnostic method, if low, will give a false-negative result. This means that a person tested negative does not guarantee that the person has not been infected. In this case, the clinicians have to observe the symptoms and the exposure history of the person to finally confirm the result. However, I guess some countries are now using a serological method which I think is more sensitive than RT-PCR. The intent of this post is not to scare anyone but to encourage us to keep doing that which we have been doing so as to quickly put an end to this virulent agent.
