Koyinbo to s'agogo l'akuko ti n ko! (Before the advent of clock, there existed a means of understanding time, season and outcome of occurrence)
In 2019, one of my guardians despite being unlettered predicted famine for 2020 and after base on 3 factors: disastrous dry spells that hitted in June of the year, shortage of hands in farming occasioned by insecurity, and lack of incentive in agric business. I'm not sure if the price of food commodities have receded ever after.
This is to tell whoever that you don't need to have all the academic credentials in the world to understand the trend of life and its components.
If not the worse disaster ever hitted Nigerians in 2024, food scarcity spells lots of dooms on families in the year that many households and businesses are yet to recover from.
While other variables exacerbating the problems persist, it is high time we come to terms with environmental degradation that brings farmers' efforts to futility. Additionally, climate change if not renders farmers expectation to naught, it daily makes the industry unattractive.
Some farming communities have recorded 6 weeks of no rain already and yet no end to their waiting.
I hope farmers can unite to demand sustainable incentives from their governments, push for effective representation in the #InternationalCommunity and demand #justice for the #lossanddamages that #Climate unleash on them.
My hearty 💜❤️ sympathy to all farmers in this hard time
Sincerely,
Adebukola Margaret
