It's World Toilet Day.
It seems human body systems mimics the common sayings that life is a give and take.
As much food that goes through our mouth is expected to return to the toilet after its service.
This makes a Toilet an integral part of a house that shouldn't be compromised for any reason.
Unfortunately, many households exist without a unit of toilet thereby necessitates open defecation and arbitrary dumping of waste.
This barbaric culture had earned an hitherto respectable people A Dirty A Dirty PEOPLE for being unruly to their environment and sanitation.
I had the privilege to join the Karim Adeyemi Foundation to commemorate World Toilet Day, 2024. The event witnessed a community Cleanup event which started last week till today. We also planted trees not just to give fruits to the community but also to green the environment and inculcate the culture of social responsibility in the lives of the community members. We ended the program with a sensitization exercise from Oje market down to Temidire that houses a stream that traverses many communities in Ibadan land.
Truthfully, the little of the government isn't enough in combating environmental menace particularly open defecation and illicit waste dumping that is already a norm in our society.
As expected, civil societies are critical stakeholders in community development and nation building. Today Karim Adeyemi Foundation, Whole Planet Initiative and other stakeholders, Oje market men and women, among others contributed their quotas. We hope that the community will appreciate the project with a good maintenance culture in practice. This is the only price we demand of them.
Sincerely,
Adebukola Margaret
