Today while talking to our community about the need for environmental sanitation. Some one asked me " Kanife, what do you gain by all this awareness and disturbing people about environmental sanitation"? Why don't you leave us alone to continue the way we are living our lives? 

I smiled and responded " I may not gain anything physical now but I'm doing this for our benefits and benefits of future unborn generations. Fortunately for us we sat under one big tree which provided a shade for us, with fresh air oscillating around us; just a normal village life.

I told them that this tree we're sitting under is over 50 years old and the man that planted this tree is no longer alive but he did something which we are no enjoying till today. Some of our positive actions now may not have immediate physical reward but future reward. 

Another elderly man who has been in politics for years asked me " is it our duty/responsibility to clear out water ways, plant trees and take care of our environment or is it the duty of government? 

This elderly man was already disappointed in this current government and was asking out of emotion. 

My response was that government has their own responsibility while we citizens have ours; to keep our environment clean & greener is our responsibility while responsible government can support the initiative. 

In creating awareness we may meet people from all walks of life with different experiences, some will speak out of emotion and anger, others will still insist on doing the wrong thing despite knowing the repercussions.

I noticed that many people depend on government to do everything, the fact is that government can't really do everything even when they know the right thing to do. Our people must also understand that they have responsibility towards environment no matter how little it may be . Little effort can bring great deliverance. The only way to defeat a bad idea is to introduce good idea to the society. WPI is introducing the right idea to the society which will replace olde ideas.
